Ports Struggle Against Grizzlies Dropping Five of Six

In Sunday's series finale against the Fresno Grizzlies, the Stockton Ports suffered a 7-3 loss, marking their fifth defeat out of six games against them, including four straight. The Ports will look to bounce back this week against the Modesto Nuts making their first trip to John Thurman Field this season.

PREVIOUS GAMES AGAINST GRIZZLIES

  • Tuesday, April 16 - A seven-run second inning was the difference for Fresno (6-2), and was aided by six walks from the Ports (2-6) on a day were they walked 13 batters in the 9-2 loss to the Grizzlies.
  • Wednesday, April 17 - Ports third baseman Luke Mann hit a bouncing ball between the diving attempts Fresno’s first and second baseman with the bases loaded in the bottom of the ninth inning Wednesday night, scoring two runs and give Stockton (3-6) their first walk-off win of the season in a 6-5 victory over the Grizzlies (6-3).
  • Thursday, April 18 -  The Fresno Grizzlies (7-3) plated four runs in the first and four more in the third, while keeping the Ports (3-7) to just one run at a time to take game three of the series 8-4.
  • Friday, April 19 - The Fresno Grizzlies (8-3) broke through for four runs in the fourth and three more in the fifth en route to shutting out the Ports 9-0 on Friday night in game four of the six-game series.
  • Saturday, April 20 -  A five-run fourth powered the Fresno Grizzlies to a 7-2 win over the Ports on Saturday night, giving them a four-games-to-one advantage in the six-game series.
  • Sunday, April 21 - For the third-straight game, Fresno (9-3) capped off their scoring in the fifth inning, as the Grizzlies again struck middle innings over the Ports (3-9) 7-3 to take five of six at Banner Island Ballpark this past week.

TOP PERFORMERS

  • Luke Mann - Mann had quite the week back at Banner Island Ballpark as the former Missouri Tiger clipped a .367 average (6-17) with a home run and four runs batted in, including two of those Wednesday Night to give the Ports their first walk off win of the season
  • Franck De La Rosa - De La Rosa had a great performance on Saturday night hauling four scoreless innings out of the bullpen while striking out four
  • Yunior Tur - Tur showcased his best outing of the season thus far throwing five scoreless innings in relief on Thursday night while allowing just one hit and striking out three

The Ports hit the road again with a trip to Modesto and John Thurman Field, to take on the Modesto Nuts (Seattle Mariners Single-A affiliate) starting Tuesday, April 23th through Sunday, April 28th.

Following their six-game series against the Nuts, the Ports head back to Banner Island Ballpark to take on the Visalia Rawhide for the first time this season. The Ports went 3-9 against the Rawhide in 2023.


Against Modesto

This will be the second time the two teams will have met his season after the Nuts swept the Ports in Banner Island Ballpark Opening Weekend. The Ports are 0-3 against Modesto so far in 2024 and went 9-18 against the reigning Cal League Champs in 2023.
